Zumo monthly update: what’s new in September 2021?
by Daniel Taylor April 2023

Communicating crypto, taking action on decarbonisation and a warm welcome to 12,000 new Zumers

Sentiment this month: bullish, with Bitcoin just 10% short of its all-time high and market value again well past the $2 trillion mark. As crypto rides high, here’s a little of what we got up to in the month of September!

Welcome Zumers

September saw the close of another very successful Zumo Refer and Share programme, welcoming another 12,000 new Zumo customers into the Zumo community over the space of a month. Thank you once again to all the existing Zumers who shared their love of Zumo with their friends, and we look forward to helping our new customers get comfortable with crypto and progress in their own crypto journeys.

Particular congratulations go to Chris and Joy, who were the joint winners of our £10,000 Bitcoin BSV giveaway. They had a really fascinating story to share about how they got into crypto, which you can read all about in their winner interview here.

A helping hand

Speaking of crypto journeys, at Zumo we’re here to make sure people’s entry into and experience of crypto is as smooth and user-friendly as possible. We’re delighted that Digital Scotland has recently included the Zumo app in its introductory online course, and we thank you all for sharing your love for Zumo in the app stores.

In the spirit of sharing experiences and helping get people comfortable to take the first steps in their own journeys, we’ve been talking to some of you and we’ve been fascinated to hear the backgrounds of how you got into crypto. We love your stories and we’re excited to bring you more updates to share experiences, learning and insights for anyone curious about crypto. We’re kicking off with Jeremy from London, whose story you can read all about here. If you’d like to share your journey too, do get in touch – we’d love to hear from you.

Decarbonising crypto

September was also a very important month for sustainability. Held on 7 September, the Zumo-hosted ‘Decarbonising crypto’ round-table brought together expert voices from across the sector to gather opinions and perspectives from solution providers, industry participants and environmental research on key questions of methodology, benchmarking, collaboration and technology.

Chaired by the Crypto Climate Accord and combining leading voices in the field including the Cambridge University Centre for Alternative Finance, The Green Bitcoin Project, The Digiconomist and TAAL Distributed Information Technologies, the discussions will form the basis of Zumo’s upcoming ‘state of play’ report, providing a clear and comprehensive presentation of the facts of the crypto environmental debate, and designed to act as a springboard for industry-wide engagement and collaboration.

Zumo itself will be following up its report with further announcements reflecting the large amount of behind-the-scenes work that has gone into this issue over the past months – we’re excited to share these with you, watch this space for further updates!

Team Zumo at the CryptoAM awards

In the last month, Nick our CEO spoke about the future of money at the CryptoAM Crypto Summit (at which Zumo was also a finalist in two award categories – best UI/UX and best deployment in fintech); Paul our CPO participated in Digit’s 8th annual financial technology summit; Kirsteen our Environmental and Sustainability Adviser talked about ESG and sustainability in finance at the Scotsman Conference; and Devina our CFO shared her experience in finance at the Black Girl Finance Festival.

As ever, we’ll see you back here next month for another round of Zumo updates!
